Marketing for thebusinesses New Yorkactually runs on.
Hypekind works with small businesses in New York and across the United States: restaurants and cafés, salons and barbershops, gyms, clinics, trades, garages, estate agents and independent musicians.
Not brands with marketing departments. The places with one owner, a full week, and nobody whose job it is to keep the website alive.
In New York, the search happens two blocks away
Almost nobody in this city travels far for a haircut, a coffee, a dentist or a plumber. They search, they look at what comes up within a few blocks, and they choose from that. Which means the fight is not against every business in your trade — it is against the four or five nearest ones.
That is good news, because it is a fight a small business can win. A Google profile filled in properly, real photographs, correct hours, replies to reviews and a page that takes a booking at eleven at night will beat a bigger competitor who has none of those.
How to choose a marketing agency in New York
Ask any agency these five questions — us included. The answers tell you more than a portfolio does.
Who owns the website, the domain and the accounts when we're finished?
The answer should be you, in your name, from the start. Some agencies keep the domain or the hosting in their own account, which means leaving costs you the site. Ask where the logins live before anything is built.
What exactly will you not promise?
Anyone who guarantees a Google position, a number of followers or a mention by an AI assistant is promising something nobody controls. An agency that names its limits is telling you how it will behave when things are hard.
What would you tell me not to buy?
Most small businesses do not need an app. Plenty do not need a blog. A good answer includes something they are talking you out of; a bad one is that you need everything on the list.
How will I know whether it worked?
Ask what you will see and when. Calls, bookings, enquiries — numbers tied to your business, not impressions and reach. If the reporting only contains figures that always go up, it is not reporting.
Do you buy followers, reviews or streams?
The only safe answer is no. Bought engagement gets detected and removed, it damages reach because the platform sees people ignoring you, and on some platforms it gets the account penalised.
What we do, by trade
Each of these pages ends in six questions about your own business, and a plain list of what is missing.
